About This Item
Fordingbridge: Castle Hill Press /J & N Wilson, 2003. Book. Very Good. Hardcover. Signed by Editor. Limited Edition. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. A presentation copy from Jeremy Wilson to Dennis Silk and so inscribed on the half title page: "For Dennis Silk in eager anticipation. This is the text that S.S. first read. Jeremy Wilson".A reference to Sassoon being lent the 1922 text by Lawrence in 1923. Dennis Silk had been a friend of Siegfried Sassoon and gave a talk at the Imperial War Museum and published a book entitled: T E L and Siegfried Sassoon: A Friendship in 2010 published by The Reading Room Press. This is an unnumbered copy and in Jeremy's hand on the back of the title page is a note "ex-edition damaged front end paper". This refers to a minor crease following the fold and is hardly noticeable. This is the original 1922 text of Lawrence's acclaimed account of his part in the First World War. Bound in original brown cloth with top edge gilt. Retains the original tissue dust-wrapper in slightly creased condition and protecting the cloth. "If Seven Pillars interests you as history, or travel literature or autobiography, read the Oxford text. It's a third longer than the subscribers' abridgement and contains all kinds of interesting things you won't find there" , Jeremy Wilson, T.E. Lawrence's authorised biographer, editor and publisher..
