About This Item

New York: The Viking Press, 1937. First Printing. Hardcover. Very Good Plus in Very Good Dustjacket. Quarto (11 in. x 9 in.). Teal cloth over boards, with gilt titling to spine. Very faint rubbing to extremities. Neat, one line, 2 12 in., deaccession stamp to top of front free endpaper. No other markings. Protected by bright unclipped jacket with original $2.00 price with minor edgewear and a tiny chip from top of (dustjacket) spine.

An old Russian folktale about the great King Douda, and as well, of seven brothers who lived within King Douda's Kingdom, six of whom distinguished themselves through wondrous abilities and magnificent deeds, one of whom was locked away in a dark place, and of what came to be. Artzybasheff was the legendary and boldly creative illustrator of everything from magazine covers, to book jackets, to advertising brochures; one could usually tell if an illustration was an Artzybasheff.
