xvi+587 pages with Frontispiece, wood cuts in text and 7 plates. Royal octavo (9" x 6 1/4") bound in original blue blindstamped cloth with gilt-lettered to spine. Housed in a custom enclosure. (Graff 1448; Howes F-390; Sabin 25992; Wagner-Camp-Becker 292:2) First English edition.
Considered by Camp to be one of the most interesting books of travel through the Southwest. Froebel traveled to Chihuahua and returned by way of the Sante Fe Trail. In 1853 and 1854 he traveled the same route, to Chihuahua and then to California, arriving at Los Angeles on 6 September 1854.
Condition: Corners bumped, some rubbed to extremities and spine else very good.
