Although written well before the explosion of the self-help industry, ?Sex? by Henry Stanton is one of the very few publications of the early 20th century that shed significant light on the topic of sex, while presenting it in a less explicit, yet more insightful and informational manner that even the readers of today can relate to.

While beginning with a general description of sexuality and how it has become a widely complicated topic when it comes to the numerous psychological, social and religious elements and concepts that have influenced its development throughout the ages, Stanton gradually leads the reader to a more specific, yet balanced view into the viewpoint of sexuality before the 1920s.

Unlike many other publications of the time, this book does not lean towards a more conservational or repressed viewpoint, nor does it tip the scale in favor of male or female stereotypes. Instead, it offers an interesting and educational glimpse into the path of sexual development as it was seen at the dawn of the 20th century, presenting a genuine outline of how early Americans considered it best to prepare their children for the eventual changes they would go through during their journey to adulthood.

Comprising a total of 50 pages, the book is both easy to read and quite captivating, despite some of the obvious lacks that the time difference of almost 100 years would present to the younger readers of today. Also, it is worth noting that even some of the ideas presented in the book that revolve around the science and biology of sex still hold true after being filtered through the modern scientific advancements that have lead to our current understanding of sexuality.
