Good set in the original binding with very good interiors. ~ First edition. Collections of the National Museum of Antiquities at Leiden, II. Schneider's (1939-) "Shabtis" was originally presented as a doctoral dissertation to the University of Ghent. It directly became a classic, most authoritative study on the subject: "Fundamental is the study by Hans Schneider. Apart from substantial historical and religio-historical research, he developed a typology in order to make elaborate and repetitive descriptions of the abundant material superfluous. He submitted the collection of the National Museum of Antiquities in Leiden to this procedure and made it manageable by means of key pages with outlines of the various types." – Henk Milde, UCLA Encyclopedia of Egyptology. [Provenance:] From the library of Egyptologist Prof. Dr. Herman De Meulenaere (1923-2011). [ADDED:] As it were, Schneider's work was not free from errors which remained uncorrected as no new edition was ever published. Many a scholar took these errors at face value and some confusion and discussion arose. In a privately compiled, typed and circulated among the chosen few, a 2-page "Addenda et Corrigenda" lists no less than 46 points of errors or incompleteness, some of them rather severe. De Meulenaere kept all these years an extremely rare copy of this list. It is herewith enclosed.
