About This Item

Moscow: Foreign Language Publishing House. First Thus. Hardcover with Dust Jacket. Very Good/Very Good. B. Markevich (dust jacket and illustrations). 12mo. Pp. 453, [2]. Translated from Russian by Olga Shartse. Bound in decorated blue cloth, silver lettering stamped on spine. Light pencil underscoring on two pages; cloth lightly worn with one corner bumped. In the illustrated dust jacket that has mellowed creases on the front panel, two old tape repairs on verso. A collection of nine stories by the Russian Nobel Prize winner (1933). The last is followed by the dated May 18, 1944, but this publication would have occurred during WWII, especially given a production quality that includes a worthy cloth binding, good paper, etc. In fact, the book belies the usual shoddy publishing in Russia during all of the 20th century. A handsome book, with the dust jacket now preserved in a removable, clear archival sleeve.
