Reviews
This book was one of the earliest hardback collections of science fiction from a woman who was a master of pulp fiction from the 1920's and later. Catherine Moore developed one of the earliest archetypes of the surly antihero of the spaceways-- his name was Northwest Smith, and we see his like today in the name of Han Solo. Moore also created another character, Jirel of Joiry, a woman sword fighter in a vaguely renaissance french landscape who travels into the underworld in search of vengenace. Both characters are represented in multiple stories from this venerable old collection from the 1950's classic publisher Gnome Press.
