About This Item
London: B.T. Batsford Ltd., 1964. First English Edition . Hardcover in Dust Jacket. Very Good. 8vo (248 pages, 45 illustrations, map, bibliography, index). The siege of Paris was the last full scale investment of a European city, the first instance of the indiscriminate bombardment of a civilian population and a conflict from which arose divisions within France that are present to this day. Much emphasis is placed on the suffering of lower class and indigent Parisians in comparison to the relative comfort and immunity of the aristocracy. A very good copy, corners somewhat worn, blank labels on half-title page covering unidentified marks, in worn, mylar-covered, price-clipped dust jacket with badly chipped spine head & tail and reinforcing tape.
