framed. fine. Outstanding signed 1940 Black & White 8" X 10" publicity photograph, created by photographer James J. Kriegsman, depicting Hampton dressed in formal attire standing next to his vibraphone (1940). Boldly inscribed: "To Charley Silver, My Pal. Lionel Hampton", expertly set into a white diamond-cut mat with black and green borders, to 8 1/2" X 10 1/2", black wood frame to 13 1/2" X 16". Fine.<br/> <br/> HAMPTON, Lionel (1908 - 2002). American Jazz vibraphonist, pianist, percussionist, and bandleader who worked with such legendary musicians as Charlie Parker, Charles Mingus and Quincy Jones in a career that spanned over 65 years. The photograph carries the imprint: Personal Manager: Joe Glaser - R.C.A. Building - 30 Rockefeller Plaza. Glaser is known as the legendary manager of Louie Armstrong since 1935, both would become partners in the Associated Booking Agency. After the assassination of President John F. Kennedy - Glaser was questioned by the FBI about his strong friendship with Chicago mobster Jack Rubenstein...better known as Jack Ruby.<br/> <br/>
