Signed Page From Ship Maintenance Log; HMS Magpie by Philip, Duke of Edinburgh - 1951

[n.p.], 1951. Fine. Signed "Philip" inside a red stamped block "Commanding Officer / 7 July 1951 / H. M. Magpie", in top right corner of the ship's log, approving ship repairs at the end of a week. Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh (1921 - 2021). husband and consort to the Queen of England, Elizabeth II. He commanded the HMS Magpie from Sept 2, 1950 until 1951, after which he retired from Navy. No place is identified, by likely while in port at Malta. Philip served in the Mediterranean during WWII and always showed enormous pride in his service to the Royal Navy. The Magpie, pennant number U82, was a Black-Swan class frigate launched in 1943 and was decommissioned in 1959. 6" x 8" , 2pp., 8vo. Age fade, mostly at the edges, neatly excised, pre-printed page from what reads as the ship's maintenance logbook. Daily diary is written in blue script on both sides of the page from July 4 - July 11. Some of the recordings include; "Tested navigation circuits...6th July REGATTA MARMARIS....replaced 4 1/2" supply fan in officer's galley...filling up with salt water during refill boarders." Likely signed while in port at Malta. "When a man opens the car door for his wife, it's either a new car or a new wife." - Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.
