He was given the rare title General of the Armies. PS. 1pg. N.d. N.p. A photograph signed “John J. Persing”. Cut from a book, the black-and-white photograph depicts Pershing with his Marine escort at a Bastille Day even in Chaumont, France in 1918. The caption printed below the photo explains the significance of the photograph in terms of Pershing’s relationship with the Marines. Pershing signed the bottom of the image in blue ink. In fine condition, with an uneven left edge – probably where the image was removed from the rest of the book.
