The text is illustrated with black-and-white drawings by Maurice Sendak, double page, full-page and quarter page drawings throughout. Illustrated boards (wraparound), again by Maurice Sendak, with white coloured titles to the front panel and back strip. Illustrated dustwrapper (wraparound), same illustration as for underlying boards, with bright coloured titles to the front panel and back strip. A delightful story of a young boy who feels lonely as his family are busy doing other things, until he finds an old abandoned horse in a hilltop pasture. When his friend is threatened Ray, the young boy, finds the courage to protect him. Rubbing of the back strip edges, book corners and lower book edges. Age toning of the text book edges and pages with scattered foxing to both. A little creasing of the dustwrapper edges with rubbing of the panels. Sunning of the back strip with foxing to the verso.
