Edinburgh: Printed for William Blackwood, 1822. FIRST EDITION, 3 vols., 12mo, pp. [ii], 336; [ii], 336; [ii], 310. Half-titles and ads discarded. Later half calf, textured cloth boards, spines divided by raised bands between gilt rules, red morocco labels, 4th compartments numbered direct in gilt, edges sprinkled red and blue. A bit rubbed and scratched, one joint slightly cracking at head. Armorial bookplates with initial ‘T’ to pastedowns. This copy of Galt’s novel was owned by a Marquess and a member of the Order of the Thistle - possibly William Hay, (1826-1911), 10th Marquess of Tweeddale.

About McNaughtan's Bookshop
Established in 1957, McNaughtan's Bookshop is the oldest surviving secondhand and antiquarian bookshop in Scotland. Located in the basement of a listed 1820s tenement building at the top of Edinburgh's Leith Walk, we are the only open shop in Edinburgh holding membership of the Antiquarian Booksellers Association.
