Johann Purmann was a Bavarian educator and historian who, today, is primarily remembered for his landmark work on the history of the native tribes in North, Central, and South America. The work, 'The Savages of America', is one of the best German histories on the customs and culture of native tribes in America, most notable for the inclusion of impressive, folding engravings.
This volume from the 1790 first edition contains descriptions of people groups in Florida, Brazil, Hispaniola, as well as notes on the Inca, showing pagan religious rituals such as snake worship!
