Includes a foreword by Major Frederick Russell Burnham, D.S.O. 32 pp. photos and illustrations, with seven textual drawings and one map. Presentation copy, inscribed by William Banning on a specially prepared printed label. Octavo. Original black cloth binding, with a stagecoach blind-stamped on the front and red titles. A chronicle of the 'Fifties and 'Sixties, to include the stories of those young men who made the Western staging system the finest and greatest, certainly, of any like institution in the world. Here are the stories of the great personalities of stagedom - Birch, Butterfield, Russell, Majors, Holliday - and hundreds of lesser celebrities like the famous Charlie Parkhurst, who wielded his whip until his death at the age of 67 before it was discovered that "he" was a woman.
