About This Item

London: John Miller, Burlington Arcade, 1820. first. Leather bound. Covers are off at hinges, text block and endpapers are bright and clean, overall tight. Bookplate of I.W. Drummond inside front cover. Full polished calf with git borders on covers, five raised-bands and label remnant, alledges gilt. 320 pp., vignette on title-page. This is the rare first edition, first issue with the title-page imprint by John Miller. First volumes with the John Miller imprint are rare: Miller began publishing volume I of this work, and his company failed during its production. John Murray took over printing the remainder of the first volume, as well as the second volume. Murray also published the second edition of both volumes the same year, being the first English edition under one publisher. This binding can be repaired, or redone to match your orphan Volume 2. A very nice copy all things considered.
