About This Item

Philadelphia: Key & Biddle, 1839. First American Edition. Hardcover. Mild toning to paper; light wear to cloth. Near Fine. Two volumes in publisher's original stamped cloth with paper spine labels. Both volumes with the ownership SIGNATURE on the title pages "C. C. Moore" by Clement C. Moore, the author of "The Night Before Christmas." On the front pastedown of each volume is the small Fountain Lawn Library bookplate of coal baron La Fayette Butler, many of whose books were left untouched from the time of their purchase by him until their sale in the summer of 1999. Also tipped to the pastedown of the first volume is an old catalog description of these books.
