Alfred A. Knopf, 1947. First Edition, First Printing. Hardcover. NEAR FINE. xv, [3], 3-622, xlii, colophon, [5] pp., with all 15 B/W plates present. 12mo, black finished cloth. Gilt lettered and ruled spine with gilt stamped broken manacle and vine, blind-stamped and ruled decal to front cover. Fore corners just lightly bumped, otherwise exceedingly and uncommonly clean and sharp with tight binding, bright gilt, and unfaded cloth. Stated First Edition of one of the great works in American History, the seminal account of the Black American experience which has gone on to sell over 3 million copies.
