About This Item
Chicago: Pellegrini & Cudahy. Very Good+ in Very Good+ dj. (c.1947). First Edition. Hardcover. [light shelfwear, small ink check-marks next to all titles in table of contents, previous owner's name + date & place of purchase written in ink along edge of rear pastedown (concealed beneath rear jacket flap), a couple of tiny stains on fore-edge, one diagonally-creased upper page corner; the jacket shows some wrinkling at the upper part of the spine extending a bit onto the rear panel, some surface-scuffing along the left edge of the rear panel, but overall in nice condition especially given the thin uncoated paper on which it's printed]. INSCRIBED and SIGNED by the editor on the front endpaper: "for James Montgomery -- / some of the best in the / field of the weird -- / Cordially / August Derleth." The stories, "none of [which] has been anthologized before," include contributions by: Edith Wharton ("The Lady's Maid's Bell"), Ray Bradbury ("The Jar"), Donald Wandrei ("The Painted Mirror" and "The Last Pin"), Robert Bloch ("One Way to Mars"), Anthony Boucher ("Mr. Lupescu"), and (of course) H.P. Lovecraft ("The Dreams in the Witch-House"). Signed by Editor .
