Cambridge: Houghton Mifflin/Riverside Press, 1901. Hardcover. Very Good-. i-x, 43pp. (only printed on recto of each leaf, versos all blank). 19 cm. 12mo. illus. Hardcover. Publisher's original navy polished cloth over boards, gilt lettering and decorations to spine and upper cover, double borders in gilt to upper cover; red silk marker. Book Condition: presents very nicely with wear to extremities, pushed spine ends, some loss to lettering on spine (publisher's name at tail of spine), slightly dulled lettering to spine but the very bright and crisp on upper cover. Lower 1/4 of front hinge cracked; page vii repaired on recto and verso with ancient cello tape running 3/4 the length of the page. The nine photogravure plates, including frontispiece portrait of J. G. Whittier, are in fine condition, unmarked and fresh, as is the remainder of the text block. "The photogravures were executed by A.W. Elson & Co., Boston." Illustrations list.
