Small octovo hardcover in beautiful ornate cover with vertical gilt florets and a central gilt motif, exceptionally bright gilt lettering within the motif and on the spine, signed binding (H) on front, top edge gilt, very tight, square and straight spine/binding, pages are uncut at fore and bottom edges, none are torn, marked, or foxed, all retain a freshness, the covers are quite bright, only the heel of spine shows a trace of rubbing, else FINE within heavy clear mylar wrap. A beautiful copy with a number of unopened pages, ergo unread. 346pp; colored frontis and numerous plates/illustrations. A look at the upper class in high society Washington up to the end of 19th century. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall .
