About This Item
Social Sciences, Nauka, 1992. Soft cover. Good. Single volume, double issue, 272 pages, periodical in thick paperback form, wraps rubbed and creased, edges and pages age-toned. This double issue of Social Sciences was published in the first full year during which the Soviet Union no longer existed, but it went to press in August 1991. It still reads "USSR Academy of Sciences" on the masthead. A "Dear Reader" note from Editor-in-Chief L. Mitrokhin apologizes for "circumstances which do not depend upon us" such as "the economic crisis in this country," resulting in failure to mail out 1991 #4, and in production of this double issue. The quarterly contains English translations of articles and book reviews from a range of Soviet journals in the social sciences. This issue includes an article on the first Gulf War, and a round table of the USSR Union of Cinema Workers and the AS USSR Institute of Philosophy "Is Marxism Dead?" No markings observed on pages.

About Berthoff Books
Berthoff Books sells books previously owned by the late Warner B. Berthoff, Professor of English and American Literature, emeritus, at Harvard University, and members of his family. Some books contain marginalia by Warner Berthoff, the late Prof. Ann E. Berthoff (U. Mass-Boston, English composition and rhetoric), or others, which we aim to describe accurately. Our inventory features English and American fiction and poetry, 20th-century literary criticism, world literature, history, and philosophy. Other categories are history and politics of Australia, Asia, South Africa and the Middle East; intelligence agencies and gnostic beliefs; Russian literature and criticism; and Russian and Soviet history.
