In 1986, a seven-hour miniseries based on the book was broadcast on CBS. Mr. Nevin wrote other historical novels. His 1996 book "1812" tells of Dolley and James Madison's role in the second war with England. "Eagle's Cry" is about how the Louisiana Purchase set the nation on its path across the continent. In "Treason", about Burr's effort to regain his standing after killing Alexander Hamilton in a duel. And "Meriwether" recounts the Lewis and Clark expedition. Profusely illustrated with black and white and color historical photos. Covers the Indian wars, the forts of the Old West, what it was like on the trail and the famous commanders including Custer and his famous disaster. The Old West is a series of books about the fundamental founding of the American Old West, published by Time-Life Books from 1973 through 1980. Each book focused on a different topic, such as cowboys, American Indians, gamblers and gunfighters.
