[good sound copy, minimal shelfwear, faint dampstaining along bottom edge of rear cover, one-time owner's name plus date & place of purchase written in ink along edge of rear pastedown (concealed beneath the rear jacket flap); supplied with a new FACSIMILE jacket, in Fine condition]. INSCRIBED and SIGNED by the author on the front endpaper: "To Keith Baker - / a book of / things that go bump / in the night. / Cordially / August Derleth." Twenty stories, including "four tales in the Cthulhu Mythos pattern of the late H.P. Lovecraft, two of them of novelette length; this was Derleth's second published collection of his own stories. The AD stories are: "A Thin Gentleman with Gloves"; "Mr. Ames' Devil"; "A Wig for Miss Devore"; "Mrs. Corter Makes Up Her Mind"; "Pacific 421"; "Headlines for Tod Shayne"; "No Light for Uncle Henry"; "Lansing's Luxury"; "Carousel"; "Lady Macbeth of Pimley Square"; "Here, Daemos!"; "McElwin's Glass"; "An Elegy for Mr. Danielson"; "The Satin Mask"; "Motive"; "The Metronome"; "The Inverness Cape." The Lovecraftian tales are: "The Thing That Walked on the Wind"; "Ithaqua"; "Beyond the Threshold"; "The Dweller in Darkness." ****NOTE again that the dust jacket on this book is a FACSIMILE, not an original.**** Signed by Author .
