About This Item
Hodge & Co.. Good. First Edition. Hardcover. An externally unlovely 1900 1st edition hardcover in olive cloth-covered boards with attractive gilt lettering and Art Nouveau decoration to the front board. Both bottom board corners have apparently been exposed to water and the cloth is faded/rubbed but the boards remain sound, the spine is rubbed to the edges and bumped/rubbed to the ends, significant spine lean. Internally the book is in very good condition with shadowed endpapers, no writing or stamps, clean cream pages soiled/foxed to the text-block edges particularly the upper edge. A collection of the histories of 38 of the "best-known songs in Europe and America" (although the vast majority are Scottish folksongs) which originally appeared in the popular magazine The People's Friend - many still familiar and many now forgotten. An interesting little book. Carefully packaged and posted within 48 hours from our wee bookshop in Scotland. .
