About This Item

NY, Macmillan, MDCCCC [1900]. Born Agnes/Nesta Shakespear Higginson in Antrim in 1864 or '65, the poetess married Walter Claremont Skrine on 5 June 1895 and went with him to ranch in Alberta, Canada (cf. Burke's Landed Gentry, 1972). There she wrote poems that recalled the musical language of the people among whom she grew up and longing for the Ireland she had left behind (the last poem in the collection is called "Back to Ireland"). The poems were immediately taken up as popular ballads, set to music, anthologized. Hard Cover. x, 61 pages. This is a very good copy in paper boards. Stock#NS0035.
