William Heinemann, 1954-01-01. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good/Very Good. Hardcover 1954, First Edition, William Heinemann, Ltd., 303 pages. Very Good, in Very Good Dust Jacket. Blue cloth boards with gilt titles. Images from DJ have lightly transferred onto the cover and spine. Just a touch of shelf/edge wear - corners sharp. Dark topstain to text block. Endpapers are illustrated with portrait sketches of the author and the climbers. Neatly written inked gift inscription to prior owner on half title page. All interior pages are tight and unmarked. Color illustrated DJ is original and unclipped - minor shelf/edge wear to head and tail of spine which is sun-darkened. Images from endpapers have lightly transferred to interior flaps of DJ - now in mylar. Author was the first member of the 1953 Everest Expedition to accomplish the ascent of the South Col. He gives vivid account of the thousand-and-one physical and mental sensations that crowded in upon him during the climb. Included are many maps, photos and drawings along with poems written during the climb. LOC SSS-16
