Stetson Kennedy's highly critical yet hopeful look at the South and its institutions and traditions. A native Southerner, Kennedy infiltrated the Ku Klux Klan, Sons of Dixie, and the Commoner Party to get the goods on these peculiarly Southern groups. He goes after unreconstructed rebels and their Yankee collaborationists alike.

This copy is inscribed and signed by Kennedy on the dedication page to social activist Josephine Wilkins in year of publication.

Laid in is a prior catalogue description of this book by a disapproving Southern bookseller who described it thusly: "An incredibly vicious attack on the South, Southern conservatives and segregationists. One of the most extreme and rottenest examples of leftist propaganda undoubtedly ever published, Reminiscent of the worst Communist propaganda filth published on the same and related issues. Poisonous ideological garbage."

Blockson #4044.
