About This Item

[Junction City, 1899. Very good.. [48]pp. Original printed wrappers, stapled. Light dust soiling and occasional foxing. A very scarce Kansas promotional dating to the end of the 19th century, comprising both a view book of Fort Riley and advertising space for businesses in neighboring Junction City. The booklet contains twenty-six photographic views of the grounds of the fort, including many of its structures, and of men in various modes of training and guard duty. Facing each image are numerous illustrated advertisements for local enterprises such as the Model Meat Market ("Choicest Cuts, Juiciest Steaks, Rarest Dainties"), the Model Barber Shop ("Everything New Except the Barbers"), and the town dentist, O.B. Wibking ("Best Set of Teeth $8.00"). OCLC locates only two copies, at Yale and Kansas State.
