About This Item

Poughkeepsie: K.K. Publications / Gold Key Bound Comic/Digest. Illus. by Dan Spiegle (unattributed). Various Conditions. Magazine. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. Eleven consecutive issues featuring the Robinson family lost in space and trying to find their way home. #4 finds them "captured by cave men on a primitive planet," where they "must battle a prehistoric beast to escape!" G w/corner wear, creasing. Obviously read multiple times, but intact. In #5, "A fantastic mirage, a space giant, unworldly creatures -- all confront the Robinsons" when they think they have returned to Earth. Fr w/diagonal creases, scraping to spine, pieces torn from bottom right corner of front cover, cover loose at bottom staple. SFR #6 sees the evil Zurko capturing Tim and Tam in order to create an army of Tim clones to assist him in dominating his home planet (spoiler alert: it fails). Captain Rex Venture features in the first part of "Captain Venture and the Land Beneath the Sea," where he and his co-pilot crash into the sea of a strange world, and surface in a lush cavern. NF w/light general wear. In #7, "Jet-men and a fierce fire monster confront Tim and Tam Robinson." Captain Venture's story continues. VG w/moderate handling wear. Still lost when #8 hit the stands, and "Searching for their own solar system, the Robinsons find themselves in another dimension, facing new dangers!" Captain Venture and co-pilot Scotty continue adventuring in Part 3 of that land-beneath-the-sea thing. VG w/cover slightly pulled (but still intact), moderate general wear. "A power failure aboard their space station forces the Robinsons to land on a planet inhabited by fierce man-eating Kloblops!" in #9 (too bad that they weren't forced to land on a planet inhabited by gentle, man-affectionate Kloblops, because by this point I think Craig's getting a little tired of the same old faces around all the time, y'know?). Captain Venture and Scotty still haven't found their way out of that lush cavern from back in #6. VG w/light general wear and a bit of crinkling (possibly a wee bit of moisture) to small portion of front cover. As #10 arrives, "Tim and Tam Robinson seek help for their injured father in a city ruled by sinister, metal-headed men!" (sounds like they're in Washington, except the sinister men there all have heads of solid bone). Captain Venture continues his exploits in that confounded alien cavern. A bit better than G, w/rubbing, moderate handling wear, 3/8" tear to bottom edge of front cover, 1" diagonal tear to left edge of back cover. As if the metal-headed men from last issue weren't enough, in #11 "The Robinsons join forces with bat-winged men to battle poison-spouting creatures from space! (huh -- poison-spouting creatures, eh? -- geez, maybe they ARE in Washington after all). Captain Venture, you ask? Well, this sixth part is titled "Up From the Caverns," so have Rex and Scotty finally found a compass, or something? Let's tune in and find out. VG w/light general handling wear. In #12, Craig and Tam take refuge in an underground cavern, but "find greater peril in the trap of the IRON DWARFS!" Meanwhile, Captain Venture is still marooned in his own underground cavern (maybe he'll run into Craig and Tam and together they'll find a solution to the problem of underground caverns on alien planets). For the first time in the series, the back cover is not a pin-up reproduction of the front cover. VG w/light general wear. The penultimate item (that would be #13, boys and girls) in this listing sees June getting a little face time as she and husband Craig "risk their lives to rescue their son from THE PIT OF DOOM!" And Captain Venture fans were probably pretty excited to see this episode of his in-cavern adventures entitled "Escape," but alas, Craig and Tam were apparently busy elsewhere in the previous issue, and never hooked up with Rex and Scotty to solve the apparently common cavern problem plaguing outer space. VG-F w/just light wear. And finally, in #14, "The Robinsons struggle to escape a planet whose sun showers death-dealing rays!" Venture? Still not out. G w/handling wear. Covers by George Wilson..
