The author was a major NASA engineer and chief of the systems layout branch Who set out to debunk the Von Daniken theories. Author Blumrich began his engineering career in aircraft design in 1934 and later worked on large rockets and spacecraft. When he read the von Daniken he smiled, grinned, and laughed --- until he found the passage in which von Daniken writes about the prophet Ezekiel. Here were technical statements and claims right in the fields of his own professional knowledge. He was sure by using the Bible he could explain why von Daniken was wrong. He soon lost his grin, became profoundly curious, and what followed was an experience, unusual in every respect, an undertaking which was done exclusively on his own time, since NASA, his employer, was not engaged in such matters.
