About This Item

Pamphlet, 8vo, hand collated, 7 pp. Browned and aged, pencil notation on front page; otherwise very good. John S> Harris (1825-1906) was the US Senator from Louisiana 1868-1871. Despite the fact he was a Senator in the deep South, he was an Abolitionist, and even helped freedmen learn about their rights as citizens. This pamphlet discusses issue relating to on building levees on the lower Mississippi.
