Original cloth, black-stamped rules and beveled edges to boards, gilt title and black-stamped fillets to spines. Moderate wear to extremities, front hinges of Volumes I-III cracked, light toning to interiors, a few cracks to text blocks, contemporary owner signature (I.J. Seafield) to front endleaves. $150. * Later edition. Containing of some of the most brilliant forensic orations in English, this collection was later reprinted by the Legal Classics Library. Erskine was "probably the greatest advocate who ever practiced at the English bar," who "at once made his way by his eloquence.": Walker, Oxford Companion to Law 429.

Founded in 1983, The Lawbook Exchange, Ltd. is devoted to all aspects of law and its history. It has two main components. The Antiquarian Book Department offers a wide range of Continental, British, and American books, manuscripts, and ephemera from the medieval era through the twentieth century. The Publications Department offers reprints of over 1,000 landmark or otherwise interesting works, many with newly commissioned introductions, and several original publications. The Lawbook Exchange also offers appraisals and provides assistance with collection development.
