Book is in Very Good condition but the leather cover is fragile/Fair. All around gilt, spine is very worn and the hinges are cracked with the covers almost detached. 771 pages plus transportation. A solid copy of the 1933 first edition of John Ben Pate's self published county history. Maroon cloth over boards with gold gilt lettering on front and smaller black lettering down the spine. Some fading on spine and some light rubbing. Corners are still fairly sharp, no breaks in the cloth. Previous owner's name on the top of the front pastedown. Hinges have no breaks-front or back. Pages are clean and all are present. 198 pages, 12 chapters with 2 appendices. Great picture frontis with tissue paper between picture and title page. Several pages of old pictures of residents and buildings and at least one map. Truly a find, comes to you in an archival acid free document bag for storage.

Interior of text is tight, clean and Intact except for the brittle endpapers: front sheet is detached. The text is bright white without browning. Illustrated with the family armorial crest and portraits. A few small cloth bubbles. Genealogy; Portraits; 4to 11" - 13" tall; 84 pages .

The Debutante Register: 1945. This is a rare book. A large register of women who made their "debut" into society between 1943-1945. Some skipped their Debutante Ball due to the war. There is a photograph of each woman, and underneath is their name, who their parents are, where and when they held their debut, and a couple sentences about their education or their family history. Included amongst the women in this book is SHIRLEY TEMPLE! Her debut lists "cancelled due to the war." There are multiple signatures on the forward page, and I'm not sure if this book is signed or if the signatures were printed on from the originals.
