About This Item
New York, N.Y.: Farrar Straus & Young, 1952. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Fine/Very Good +. Charles Mozley. Galdos is a major Spanish and European novelist who ranks with Balzac, Dostoevsky and Dickens. A household name in Spain. Translated from the Spanish by Gamel Woolsey (Spanish title is "La de Bringas") Profusely illustrated with black & white drawings in a classical style and superbly constructed by Charles Mozley. The book is a extraordinary condition, whistle-clean inside and out, stiff green clothe-covered boards, and unmarked. The DJ is bright and has some minor edge wear, is price-clipped but the $ sign is still there, and is orange and off-white with a wonderful 3/4 page size pen and ink drawing of a woman. From the inside of back flap "Thus the SPENDTHRIFTS is both an allegory of the ruling classes of Spain and a sermon on the classic Spanish theme, made familiar to us in DON QUIXOTE, of illusion and reality."
