Sequoia S. A. Lausanne, 1964. facsimile reprint. Hardcover. Very Good/No Dust Jacket. Spieghel Der Zeevaerdt is a 1964 facsimile reprint written in Dutch, of the original 1584-1585 edition. It has the 1584 and 1585 editions bound together in a large folio volume with black leather spine and green cloth boards. Light shelf wear. Slight scuffing to boards. Gold compass rose on front board, title in gold on spine. Text is clean and crisp. Some foredge foxing. Movable celestial chart is present and intact. Sold together with this volume is a second volume entitled The History of Lucas Janszoon Waghenaer and his Spieghel der Zeevaerdt by Dr. C. Koeman. This book was written in English, as an introduction to the facsimile reproduction of De Spieghel der Zeevaerdt and is the history of the origins of Dutch navigation, as well as the story of the origins of Dutch maritime cartography and of the development of charts and seamen's guides. It is 72 pages long. Bound in blue cloth with the same gold compass rose on the front cover. Title in gold on spine. Light damp spotting along board spine and edges. Occasional foxing to text. Binding is nice and tight.
