About This Item
Leicester: Blitz Editions Bookmart Ltd. Very Good/Very Good. 1997. Hard Cover. Sm 4to Dimensions: 24.2 x 19.2 x 2.2 cm 1856053857 Dust jacket complete, unclipped. Illustrated boards. No ownership marks. Numerous photographs. 192 pages clean and tight. The Waffen-SS is without doubt one of the most notorious military organisations in history. Waffen-SS soldiers were highly trained, very aggressive on the battlefield and contemptuous of death. They embraced the concept of hardness with relish, which meant they showed no pity towards Germany's enemies. They were soldiers of destruction par excellence. SS: The Blood-Soaked Soil is a detailed summary of the Waffen-SS's greatest battles between 1939 and 1945. Read about how the Das Reich Division conquered Yugoslavia almost single-handedly, how the dreaded Totenkopf Division held for 73 days against impossible odds in the Demyansk Pocket, how the foreign volunteer units of the Waffen-SS halted the mighty Red Army at Narva for six months, and much more. With the aid of photographs that have been recently unearthed in eastern Europe and have never been previously published, SS: The Blood-Soaked Soil tells the full, dramatic story of the Waffen-SS in action: the stunning victories, the savagery of the Eastern Front, the atrocities both on and off the battlefield, and the grim battles of attrition fought in the last two years of the war to save the crumbling Reich. .
Reviews
On Mar 21 2020, a reader said:
Williamson's book "The SS: Hitler's Instrument of Terror" is incredibly incomplete. Williamson makes virtually no mention of the holocaust, the mass murder of Europe's Jews and others. The word does not even appear in the index. He goes on and on about the Waffen SS, as a fighting force, but never mentions the elimination of the Warsaw Ghetto, the death camps or how the SS's ran the death camps and their role in the slaughter of millions of innocents.
One wonders if Williamson is an apologist for the SS as he totally leaves out the SS's role in one of the worst, if not the worst crime in human history.
