New York, Roycrofters, 1899/1900 1st Signed Ltd Numbered Ed. 696/940.. Softback, 8 x 6 inches. Dark green soft suede leather fine binding, with gilt lettering to front. Top page edges gilt. Brown silk cloth endpapers. In very good near fine condition. Some darkening to spine, some rubbing to edges of suede on cover else clean and smart. Signed and numbered by author behind title page. Attribution inscription to front endpaper “To Ernest Hartley Coleridge, with the Compliments of James Carleton Young. April 1902.” Page edges rough cut, else all very clean and tight throughout. A very good clean and tight signed copy. 132pp. Illustrated with a B&W engraved frontis portrait, decorative coloured title page and decorative coloured letterpieces. Ernest Hartley Coleridge (1846–1920) was a British literary scholar and poet. He was son of Derwent Coleridge and grandson of Samuel Taylor Coleridge. Educated at Highgate School, Sherborne School and Balliol College, Oxford. He did scholarly work on his grandfather's manuscripts, being the last of the Coleridges involved in their editing. He also took part in the campaign to buy the Coleridge Cottage in Nether Stowey for the nation.
