London: Hodder and Stoughton, Undated . Hardcover. Good.. 8vo.. Very early edtion, possibly 1926. Brown cloth boards with gilt lines and tipped in painting to front, gilt lettering to spine. Edges are bumped. Markings to front and especially to rear boards. Heavy grey card endpapers and two further pages at front and rear, with tipped in paintings with tissue guard to frontispiece and title page by F Cayley-Robinson. Five further tipped in paintings with guards. Old photographs of Assisi have been pasted in to front free endpaper, and inner rear page. Pages are age tanned with occasional foxing especially to prelims and printed on cream laid paper. Binding is tight. 8vo.
Synopsis
Chesterton's biography of Saint Francis of Assisi is a classic portrait of the saint. Chesterton tries to bring us as close to Francis' interior life as an external observer can manage to be.
