O'MALLEY AND ASSOCIATES ARCHITECTURE FIRM, BROOKLYN] ORIGINAL PENCIL DRAWING OF SAINT JEROME HOLDING BIBLE AND QUILL PEN WITH LION SITTING AT HIS FEET by sculptor Michal Gressel with a purple-toned print of the drawing on tan paper done by the architecture firm John O'Malley and Associates, with this firm's stamp in lower right corner with "Approval As Noted" circled in red pencil along with initials J. B.M. and 6-16-67 date, a second stamp for Jacob Morgenthaler's Sons, Architectural Woodwork, Brooklyn, NY, noting Michael Gressel as the creator of the drawing for the project Cathedral College, Douglaston, Queens, with John O'Malley & Associates as the architect, a large, elongated drawing for the sculpture of Saint Jerome conceived by sculptor Michael Gessel of a large-size figure with a halo holding a Bible and quill pen with a lion sitting at his feet and the name "St. Jerome" vertically in large outline letters at the lower left edge, black pencil, 18" wide x 50" high, the O'Malley architecture firm print of Gressel's pencil drawing is the same size and purple-tinted with brown pencil highlighting of parts of the lion; one-of-a-kind surviving architectural work (see O'Malley note belw) /// NOTES: MICHAEL GRESSEL: d. 2000, came to the United States [from Germany] in 1928 where he attended and received a certificate from The Beaux Art Institute of New York…listed in the Who's Who in American Art and The Who's Who in The East…Director of the Hudson Valley Art Association and Past Officer of the Steuben Society of America…also a Member of the National Sculpture Society…won numerous Awards Nationwide and has works in Permanent Collection in The Pentagon and in The Metropolitan Museum of Art…has works in St. John The Evangelist Church, Stepinac High School and St. Patrick's of Armonk [and] in numerous other churches and private collections throughout the United States. O'MALLEY: 1915-1970, American architect based in Brooklyn, NY, known primarily for his work as an architect for the Archdiocese of New York. His firm designed more than 150 buildings during his career. O'Malley also designed public buildings and private residences.
