Three people arrived in the mythical southern town of Mimosa one day, John Calliph, returning home after years of wandering, and his two DP friends, Katie and Ben. Because they were different, Katie and Ben caused excitement in Mimosa-as it turned out, a great deal of excitement, for the residents of the town were suspicious and even afraid of them. And Caliph himself disturbed the placidity of the town and the Mimosan's sanctimonious self-righteousness. On the other hand he was shocked at what the found going on in Mimosa. When the antipathy of the town's leading citizens became violent, John Caliph solved his problems in his own way. A STATE IN MIMOSA has a warm and compelling love story and some serious and pertinent thoughts on marriage. It is a rich, full-bodied novel with many of the familiar aspects of the Taliant story excellent dialogue, frequently ludicrous situations, and unforgettable characters. But its major theme is serious. What happened in Mimosa could happen anywhere in America today.
