About This Item
An assessment of the state of Taiwan's basic economy three years after Chiang Kai-shek established a provisional Republic of China capital in Taipei, his government forced to relocate there from Nanjing by the victorious CCP. Under US guidance and funding, Taiwan instituted land reform that abolished usurious practices in Mainland China, age-old and still in place under Chiang's KMT government, thus providing tenant farmers with some equity. The facts presented here establish the foundation for the Taiwan success story, which, from 1952-on, would experience rapid growth and, eventually, staggering distribution of exports. Uncommon.
