Ted Gamblin has brought together a selection of over seventy photographs from his personal collection taken with his various cameras from the late forties, through the fifties and up until the era of steam haulage around Eastleigh was drawing to a close. Most of Ted's original notes have been retained, with additions by the publisher.
At Eastleigh and on the surrounding lines one would have seen locomotives, many in a rundown condition following the War, being gradually replaced with newer designs running side by side, with some going for repair, service or sadly awaiting their fate in the scrap yard.
This book aims to serve as a visual memory of Steam Locomotives in and around Eastleigh from Ted Gamblin through the perspective of a young man's eye combined with a meticulous record of detail, location and dates. Hopefully this personal record will be enjoyed by other avid railway enthusiasts, historians and in particular those who had family employed at the Eastleigh Works.
The book content was initially provided by the author in his own hand writing, then many typed draft versions before additional research was undertaken to bring this book of memories to print to be enjoyed by fellow railway enthusiasts, historians and those who had worked with Steam Locomotives.

Where Biblio provide sellers with fixed postage rate tables, there are books that will require much heavier rates in order to cover the postage, we dont charge for the packing, therefore a book of 1kg or more for example will obviously cost more than one at 150g therefore we appreciate the buyer will understand that we may state any extra will be mentioned in the listing or when accepting the order. Our UK fixed standard rate will change when Royal Mail changes the rates while most heavier books will have an extra added to the book price. ALL OVERSEAS orders are weighed and checked against the rates available for that country.
Note our Store photograph is just of a sample bookshelf where none of those books shown are actually those up for sale in our storefront on Biblio or any other site.
