About This Item

The State Historical Society of Iowa, Iowa City, IA, 1968. Revised Edition. Hardcover (Original Cloth). Very Good+ Condition/Very Good-. Book Signed by Author. Petersen has signed his full name under his name on the title page. At the top edge he has written, "To my good friend [name] ... inscribed with the warm personal regards of the author. 'Steamboat Bill'" This is a revised edition from the 1937 original printing of 2,000 copies. Petersen notes in his introduction, "This reprint ... has two new features not contained in the original volume. The first feature is the addition of four 16-page pictorial inserts of photos .... The second feature is the four decorative maps appearing in the end covers" (p. [6]). Size: 9" -11" - Small Quarto (Sm. 4to). 575 pages. Item Type: Book. Text block is tight, bright and unmarked. Bound in green cloth over boards with bright gilt title and decorations on the front cover and spine. The binding is in excellent shape, especially for such a heavy book. Corners are sharp with minimal self wear. Minimal wear at the head and foot of the spine, as well. Hinges are strong. The unclipped ($10.00) plain paper dust jacket is browned around the edges. The spine is darkened and there is a small tide mark (1/4" x 3/4") and shallow tears and chipping at the foot of the spine. The edges are darkened all the way around. The jacket is now protected in a clear archival Brodart sleeve. The top edge is stained in a light green. The top and side edges have some light speckles from foxing and there is a small smudge on the bottom page edges. Quantity Available: 1.
