John Hatton AO was born in poverty but his indomitable tenacity served seven parliamentary terms as Independent member for South Coast New South Wales, and brought about the Wood Royal Commission which exposed endemic corruption in the NSW Police Force. He and his wife Vera were threatened with death, but both survived.
