Reviews
On Jul 7 2013, H. M. Smith (used books) said:
This book is one of the most heartfelt that I have read. The first years of Tommy’s life are very sad. They shouldn’t have been. He had goals; the first was to find his mother. He gives his thoughts on why things were the way they were on a lot of different issues. We get a hint of his life as a drifter, places he went and of how life was in those days, when hitch-hiking was common, single mother’s was almost unheard of, and how people survived before welfare or food banks. He could have followed a lot of different life paths and he could have died quite a few times; but God had a plan for him. He was one man amid the working people, who wrote and sang of what he knew about their towns and their lives, mostly sung in smoky bars. He became Canada’s hero, the country that he loved so much.
