About This Item
New York: Collins, 1978. 4 Vols. Cloth boards, gilt titles on spines. Dust jackets illustrated front and back by Michael Foreman. All four volumes appear unread, with square corners, tight bindings and straight spines. Pages bright, clean and unmarked. Each volume signed by Illustrator Michael Foreman on the title page. Dust jacket show some toning to spines but are otherwise very nicely preserved. The Stone Book shows a price clipped front flap, but a price sticker for $7,95 in place of the original. All other volumes are not price clipped. Garner's four-volume series devotes each volume to a single day in the life of one child in the Garner family, across different generations. It was an "exhausting" project per Garner, but one he also called "the most rewarding of everything" he'd done to that point in his career. Michael Foreman won the 1982 and 89 Kate Greenaway Medals for British children's book illustration. He was runner-up on five other occasions. He also was UK nominee in 1988 and again in 2010 for the biennial, international Hans Christian Andersen Award, the highest recognition available to creators of children's books. The series marks a collaboration between an artist and an illustrator at the peak of their respective talents. . Signed by Illustrator. First American Edition. Hardcover. Near Fine/Near Fine. Illus. by Michael Foreman. 4to.
