About This Item

London: Macmillan and Co., Limited, 1911 A good to very good copy of the Edition de Luxe in full gilt-decorated vellum binding, with 32 tipped in colour plates by Warwick Goble. Only 150 copies were printed. This copy lacks the ribbon ties, but the binding is very straight, clean and sound. There is light soiling at the edges and towards the side edge of the back board, and some scuffing to the front board affecting the gilt image in the middle. Spine slightly scuffed. Top page edges gilted; remainder untrimmed. The paper is watermarked 'Aldwych'. Plates are tipped onto heavy brown paper with a woven texture. Contents are complete and in near fine condition. Tissue-guarded plates in lovely condition. Endpapers and half title are spotty and there is old repair at the rear endpaper joint. The stories date from circa 1637 and were collected mainly from Crete and Venice. The translation dates from 1847. Board size 29.2 cm x 21.9 cm. About E C Books

E C Books is a small online bookselling business, specialising in pre 20th century works:natural history, science, history, and travel, aiming for rarer and more unusual books. Our largest stock area is Natural History, where we have a good range of books from the 1700-1800's, many finely illustrated. Other areas include children's books, particularly late 1800's-early 1900's - again illustrated; and literature pre 1900.When you order books from us we ensure that they are properly packed to protect condition, and we always use recorded or 'signed for' postal services for more secure delivery. Please note that we have recently moved to the beautiful Orkney Islands, where we intend to open a bookshop over the next year. Because of our location we cannot guarantee 'next day' delivery but we will get your purchase to you as quickly and safely as we can. Please note that the buyer is responsible for the payment of any tax or duty on import.
