About This Item
London: Macmillan and Co., Limited, 1911 A good to very good copy of the Edition de Luxe in full gilt-decorated vellum binding, with 32 tipped in colour plates by Warwick Goble. Only 150 copies were printed. This copy lacks the ribbon ties, but the binding is very straight, clean and sound. There is light soiling at the edges and towards the side edge of the back board, and some scuffing to the front board affecting the gilt image in the middle. Spine slightly scuffed. Top page edges gilted; remainder untrimmed. The paper is watermarked 'Aldwych'. Plates are tipped onto heavy brown paper with a woven texture. Contents are complete and in near fine condition. Tissue-guarded plates in lovely condition. Endpapers and half title are spotty and there is old repair at the rear endpaper joint. The stories date from circa 1637 and were collected mainly from Crete and Venice. The translation dates from 1847. Board size 29.2 cm x 21.9 cm.
