Frontispiece showing Benjamin Franklin, Charles E. Duryea, and Henry Ford. Original dark red cloth, gilt lettered on cover and spine. First edition, showing "the struggle... for one hundred and fifty years to devise a means of propelling a vehicle without animal power." The author claims this is the first book "in concise form" to tell the story of "the mechanical and commercial evolution of the automobile" (Preface).
