About This Item

Harrisburg: The Stackpole Company, [1953]., 1953. First edition. First edition. Quarto. Two-tone green cloth, plan of Colt's armory on front and rear endpapers, 470 pp., frontispiece [portrait], preface, foreword, numerous illustrations, requiem, bibliography and sources, index. The story of an amazing family and the story of a new procedure, mass production. The Colt revolver was basically a weapon of the civilian as both the Army and Navy and politicians repeatedly rebuffed his efforts to have the revolver authorized for military use. It wasn't until after Colt's death and the Civil War was underway that his firearms became major weapons in both handguns and rifle versions. Light bump to corners, else a fine copy. Dust jacket shows some minor edgewear and very minor chipping to spine ends.
